A Morning Like Any Other
Lucifer woke up with a pleasant morning and a little bit of laziness. He slowly got out of bed, folded his blanket, and went to freshen up for work. He prepared a simple breakfast with some nuts and milk, and had two pieces of bread. While eating, he sent a morning message to Victoria — playfully teasing her: "Hello Miss Painter, did you wake up from bed or are you still sleeping like a dried oil painted brush?"
End-of-Day Chat · EvervaleOnline
Lucifer
"Finally done with work! It was a bit of a grind today, but I managed to wrap everything up. How was your day? Did you finish the painting?"
Victoria
"Yes! Just put the finishing touches on it. It took longer than I expected, but I'm really happy with how it turned out. I've been staring at it for the past hour, just trying to decide if it's really done."
Lucifer
"I'm sure it's perfect. Can't wait to see it! My day was the usual — meetings, reports, and trying to keep my sanity. The highlight was definitely finishing that presentation, though."
Victoria
"Sounds like a busy day. I get that feeling — it's like you can't fully relax until everything's done. But hey, at least now we're both free!"
Lucifer
"Exactly! I was thinking about our game later. It'll be nice to unwind with some virtual adventure after all the real-world tasks."
Victoria
"Definitely! Let's meet up in the game after dinner. But first, I'll send you a picture of the painting. I want to hear what you think!"
Lucifer
"I'm sure it's amazing. Can't wait to see it and then kick some enemy butt together later!"

The News That Changed the Evening
As the evening settled into a quiet rhythm, Lucifer was relaxing on his couch, scrolling through his phone — when a message from Victoria popped up. The tone was different from their usual banter, and he immediately felt a shift in the air.
// victoria's message · the announcement //
"Hey, Lucifer, I have something to tell you. I've been selected to present my artwork at a big competition in Riverton! But... it's quite far from Evervale — about 350 km away. I'll have to leave tonight by train."
Lucifer stared at the message, feeling a mix of pride and a pang of something else — something he couldn't quite place. After all, he was so used to their daily routine of texts, calls, and gaming sessions that the thought of her being so far away felt strangely unsettling. But more than anything, he was thrilled for her. This was a big opportunity.
"She had been selected. All that work, all those hours — it was paying off now, in the most beautiful way."

Lucifer
"Victoria, that's amazing! I knew your work would get recognized. You've worked so hard for this, and now it's paying off! But 350 km... that's quite a distance. How do you feel about it?"
Victoria
"I'm excited, of course. But I'm also nervous. It's a big step, and I'll be away from home for a few days. I'm going to miss our chats, our games... everything. It just feels a bit overwhelming."
Lucifer
"You're going to do great, Victoria. I have no doubt about that. I'm going to miss you, too, but I know this is something you need to do. Think of it as an adventure — a new experience."
Victoria
"You always know how to make me feel better, Lucifer. I'm just worried about being alone in a new place. But I guess I can handle it, knowing you're cheering me on from here."
Lucifer
"You're never alone, even if we're miles apart. I'll be right here, just a text or call away. And hey, you can tell me all about Riverton, the people you meet, and how the competition goes. It'll be like I'm right there with you."
Victoria
"You're right. I'll keep you updated on everything, and when I come back, we'll celebrate no matter the outcome. I'm glad I have you in my corner, Lucifer."
Lucifer
"Of course. And when you get back, we'll dive into the game and make up for all the lost time. Maybe I'll even let you win a round."
Victoria
"Oh, we both know you won't have to let me win. But I'm holding you to that celebration."
Lucifer
"Always, Victoria. Go out there and show them what you're made of. You've got this. I'll be waiting to hear all about your victory."

Victoria
"Here's my ticket and the train number, just in case you need to track me down if I disappear into some art-induced coma. Haha!"
Lucifer
"Very funny, Victoria. I'll be tracking your every move, so no sneaking off to another dimension, okay? I've got eyes on you."

Train in Motion Lucifer's Watch
Despite the light-hearted exchange, Lucifer's mind was already working overtime. He bookmarked the train schedule, double-checked the arrival time, and found himself refreshing the page more often than necessary. As the train pulled out of Evervale, he kept an eye on its progress, watching as the minutes ticked by and the miles passed.

Hours passed, and the night grew quieter. The world outside was asleep, but Lucifer was wide awake, his phone always within reach. Every time he checked the train's status, a small wave of relief would wash over him, knowing she was that much closer to her destination.

"How's the ride going? You still with us, or has the train turned into a ghost express?"
Victoria
"Still here, Lucifer. The train's a bit cold, but I'm wrapped up like a burrito in my scarf. I even managed to get some sleep, surprisingly. How about you? Don't tell me you're staying up all night to track this train!"
Lucifer
"Who, me? Staying up? Never. Just… making sure you don't get lost along the way. You know, someone's gotta keep an eye on things."

When Victoria finally messaged him that the train was slowing down, preparing to pull into the station, Lucifer felt a sense of accomplishment — as if he had made the journey himself.
As he finally watched the train come to a halt on the tracker, Victoria had made it. His job as the self-appointed guardian of her journey was done. The thought of her stepping off that train, ready to face whatever challenges the competition would bring, made him feel proud and connected to her in a way words couldn't express.
